Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ's

Do you have a warranty?

Yes, we will cover workmanship for 1 year. That includes any quality issues with the paint coating. Note normal wear and tear is not covered.

What is the process? What happens when we show up?

We will examine the door, locks, etc. We will discuss the project and go over all the work to be completed before starting. There will be no surprises! We will then complete the work and allow you to inspect everything.  Payment is then collected.

What is the process for painting?

We start by removing the urethane and stain coating with the door closed. We use a HEPA vacuum system to minimize dust. We then open the door and cover the opening with a plastic sheet. Next, we apply a heavy duty primer and then two coats of Sherwin Williams exterior latex paint. We follow all specification instructions from Sherwin Williams.

What paint do we use?

We only use Sherwin Williams exterior latex paint. This is high quality paint made to resist UV, rain, mold and humidity exposure. It has best in class moisture resistance and is formulated with ClimateFlex Technology allowing a wide range of application temperatures.

Why paint instead of refinishing?

Would you put your dining room table outside in the sun and rain? Why do it to your front door? Paint lasts longer than wood stain and polyurethane. It does not matter how many coats or what type of urethane you use. In fact, adding too many layers can cause problems with curing on the bottom layer. This is based on science and real-life experience.

Why not add more coats of paint?

We follow Sherwin Williams’ specifications. Adding more coats of paint can cause problems with proper curing in the first layer. This can lead to poor long term performance.

What about HOA approvals? What colors do you have?

We have researched and read many architectural guidelines from HOA’s in Katy, Richmond and Houston. They typically state that no approval is required for maintenance if no major change in color occurs. That’s why we offer a few different color options similar to stained wood in earth tones that are harmonious with the existing theme of your home. We have never had a problem with this, but if you are concerned, please call your HOA directly.

Who supplies the lock for a deadbolt upgrade?

We can supply a Kwikset Halo Wifi Touchscreen deadbolt in 3 color options. Ask us about pricing. This lock works with Alexa, Google Assistant or the simple Kwikset app. No special home hubs are required. You can also supply your own new locks, door knobs, etc. and we will install them for you. Let us know this when you request a quote.

Why use Kwikset?

We all know that lost keys can be expensive and frustrating. Kwikset offers a self “re-key” option called SmartKey Security so you can do it yourself in the future if needed.

Can I supply my own door lock hardware?

Yes, we recommend this so you can shop around to compare pricing, color options, etc. Let us know this when you request a quote.

Is my deadbolt properly installed?

Did your builder install your original deadbolt lock? Most builders skip the security strike and your front door is not as secure as it should be. The security strike should be fastened to your house framing with long wood screws (3+ inch). If you only see the cosmetic cover plate, your deadbolt is not secure. You might only have two tiny screws on the cover plate that will easily break free when someone kicks your door. No system is perfect, but this upgrade will provide additional strength.

Why would a builder skip installing the security strike?

Builders take short cuts. It would require additional time to properly install the strike and they would prefer to quickly move on to the next house. Most homeowners will never notice this until it is too late.

How does the security strike upgrade work?

We will examine your strike and discuss it with you. We will chisel out some of the wood in the frame to make it fit. In some cases, interior touch up paint will be required afterwards. We do not supply this. Please have your own touch up paint on hand as there are too many variations for us to match up perfectly. We can do the touch up painting for you at no additional cost.

How long will my new paint last?

Results may vary, but we will warranty the workmanship for one year. Direct sun, rain, etc. will affect each door differently.

What payment types are accepted?

All major credit cards are accepted. We also offer a cash discount which passes on the savings for credit card fees. Call for details.
